Good Day

My dad emailed me a scan of our Spring Training 2013 tickets. Aww yeah!! I’m so stoked for that. 2013 is off to a great start. (Also, I am hoping, hoping, hoping that I will have to fly down here from Philly to go to the game. Luckily, it’s a Sunday game :))

In other news, shoutout to the guy at the UPS Store who told me the band on my t-shirt is awesome. I was like, duh, Something Corporate is awesome.

In fact, shoutout to the UPS Store. I walked in and was immediately helped. I didn’t have to stand in a line for 10 damn minutes like I’d had to at the post office. I am most definitely going to use UPS to ship my personal cheerleader’s Christmas present.

Until tomorrow.

I Guess This Is Growing Up

I’m pretty proud of myself, you guys. For the first time ever (possibly) I didn’t give myself a day off or personal day or whatever just because I finished a thing (in this case, school) yesterday.

Nope, I set an alarm and had a decent to do list and everything. I didn’t cross off every item on the list, but I’m okay with that. For one thing, I got a lot done regardless. Plus, it’s not my fault that I ran out of packing tape, thus necessitating a trip to Target.

I expect more of the same from myself tomorrow. (Well, hopefully not another trip to Target – those get expensive.)

Until tomorrow.

P.S. Judging by the URL WordPress created, this is the second time I referenced Blink-182’s “Dammit” in the name of a post. Weird.

Did That Really Happen?

I said this on Twitter earlier, but it bears repeating. I don’t know what’s more shocking: that the Eagles won or that the Bucs managed to sell enough tickets to not have a TV blackout in Tampa this week.

The game was actually fun to watch, too, which was awesome. I’d pretty much given up hope by the middle of the fourth quarter (not hard because I didn’t have much to begin with), but those last four minutes made me feel much better. I know there are people who advocate tanking a losing season for a better draft position, but I can’t get down with that. Why invite the heartache that comes along with watching your favorite football team lose? Today’s win made me so happy 🙂

And let’s not forget that the Bucs were commemorating the 10th anniversary of their Super Bowl win. So the Eagles shitting all over that by winning in “walkoff” fashion was amazing! Especially if you’re an Eagles fan who’s still bitter about losing the NFC Championship Game to the Bucs. And you can clearly remember watching Super Bowl XXXVII and thinking to yourself that the Raiders didn’t even bother to show up and the Eagles could’ve walked all over them. (Not that I’m speaking from experience or anything.)

Yay for sporting events that end in smiles instead of tears!

Until tomorrow.

Happy Thanksgiving

I hope you were able to celebrate your gratitude through gluttony like good Americans. My family certainly did. Holy crap, there was so much food. We didn’t do anything crazy like cook an entire turkey, but we had at least 10 side dishes. It was kind of a lot for four people.

We barely made a dent in the food, too, so we’re having Thanksgiving Dinner Part Two tomorrow 🙂 I think I’m just going to ignore the turkey tomorrow so I can focus on the sides. Let’s face it, the sides are the really important/interesting foods. I mean, I get all worked up over Cope’s corn and potato filling, not turkey. (And we had both of my PA Dutch favorites, so yay!)

I’m feeling pretty proud of myself because I helped my mom cook for the first year ever 🙂 Normally, I’m content to sit around on my ass and do nothing, but this year I thought I really ought to help. And everything turned out great, which is awesome.

I had some good food. I watched some HGTV and some football. I spent time with family. Today was a good day.

Until tomorrow.

That Was Fun

Kratz. Your. Hands.

Do it.

Don’t mind me, I’m just riding the high that is the Phillies beating the Braves in extra innings. That will never not be fun. And thank God for Erik effing Kratz, man. He hit a game-tying home run in the ninth off Craig effing Kimbrel. (Kimbrel blowing saves against the Phillies is also always awesome.) And the fact that he was even in the game to hit that homer after this collision with Larry Jones is nothing to sneeze at. When Kimbrel came in for the save I resigned myself to losing. I was even preparing to watch Awesome Emma’s player interviews over at ZooWithRoy to cheer myself up. (Seriously though, watch them. They are adorable. And ohmigod, Chase Utley, swoon!) But then Kratz tied it up. And Mayberry went all Yayberry in the tenth. And Papelbon pitched a perfect inning for his 250th career save. (Phillies wins that end on Eric Hinske swinging strikeouts are also the best thing ever. Don’t believe me? Watch below.)

Sure the game ended about an hour ago, but I’ve spent the intervening time watching random live videos of Brand New on YouTube. Which is, of course, one of my favorite hobbies. There’s just so many of them. And most of them are awesome. This was a truly fabulous way to end the day.

Until tomorrow.

Okay Saturday

Today was a pretty good day. First of all, I actually fell asleep with relative ease last night, so that was awesome. (But then I slept forever this morning, which may prove to be problematic.) Then I finally went to Goodwill to donate six bags of clothes and two boxes of kitchen stuff. I don’t remember when I boxed up the kitchen stuff, but most of the clothes were culled from my closet in January. And I finally got them out of my house now. In August. But the point is that it’s done and I feel great.

Finally, to make today really awesome, I went to see The Dark Knight Rises with my mom. I know I just said that I would forgo seeing it in the theater so I could save that money for seeing Taking Back Sunday and Bayside (got my tickets yesterday, by the bye). But here’s the thing: my mom paid. She was the one who suggested seeing it in the first place. I mean, she only suggested it because she knew I wanted to see it, but it was her idea. I would’ve just waited for the DVD.

And I’m so glad I didn’t have to wait to see it because it was so good. I really, really loved it. This isn’t a huge surprise because I loved the first two movies and Christian Bale is my favorite actor and I’m a fan of most of the other lead actors (especially Anne Hathaway and Joe Gordon-Levitt) and I’m a fan of Christopher Nolan’s non-Batman movies (especially The Prestige). But I hadn’t expected this movie to be quite so emotionally satisfying. I was crying real tears when the credits rolled, for God’s sake.

One thing I was concerned about going in was the running time because I knew it was almost three hours. As much as I loved The Avengers, it had felt a little long and it’s running time is 20 minutes shorter than The Dark Knight Rises. But it really didn’t feel like a three hour long movie to me. Or to my mom, for that matter. In fact, I found out after the movie that she didn’t even know that it was nearly three hours long. She enjoyed it, though, and that’s all that really matters. She also didn’t believe me when I told her that Christopher Nolan swears this will be the last Dark Knight movie.

So yeah, today was a good day. I did a good deed that also benefitted myself. And I got to watch my last must-see movie of Summer 2012.

Until tomorrow.

Stormy Skies

I’m at my parents’ house so they can take my luggage to Jersey for me. It’s the best system 🙂

We were having a crazy rainstorm a few hours ago and I was really glad I was here since my parents keep most of their windows open most of the time. (Open in the sense that you can see out of them because the shades aren’t drawn, not actually open.) I actually got to watch me some lightning for once. Yes, I could keep my own windows open, but no.

I found out that neither of my parents likes lightning. My mom said it makes her nervous. I wonder where my fondness for lightning comes from. Now, I’m not a big fan of lightning if I’m driving or otherwise exposed to the elements, but if I’m all snug in a house I love to watch it.

Other than the storm, today has been pretty uneventful. Although my mom did decide to take a nostalgia tour of her childhood by baking two different cakes (including one called hot fudge sundae cake – holy crap). That was kinda cool. And we just watched Joe Versus the Volcano, which is a great movie that I haven’t watched in years. The more I think about it, today was pretty awesome.

Until tomorrow.

I’ve Died And Gone To Heaven

Holy crap, you guys, you will never believe what I found at Target today.

TastyKake pies! TastyKake freakin’ pies!

TastyKake pies at the Brandon Target

So that made my day (week/month).

Honestly, I damn near started crying tears of joy when I saw them. (I wish to God I were joking.) The funny thing is that I never would’ve seen that endcap if Target employees hadn’t been blocking the aisle I wished to enter. (Apparently it was really important that they completely rearrange the coffee/tea/bread/snack cake aisle in the middle of the damn afternoon. Look Target, you’re not open 24/7, you can rearrange your inventory in the off hours.) So I went from being annoyed in an angry way to gobsmacked (in mouth agape, hand over my mouth fashion) in a matter of seconds. And once the shock wore off and I picked myself up a couple of pies (peach and apple, if you’re interested), I got emotional. Man, I have issues.

When I got home I managed to refrain from shoving both pies in my mouth long enough to take a couple of pictures to document this momentous occasion. (Actually, I haven’t eaten the apple pie yet; I’m saving it for tomorrow.)

TastyKake pies in Florida
I still can’t believe it

Until tomorrow.

This Is Not My Worst Day Ever

I didn’t have high hopes for today, but it was pretty darn good.

I got to sleep in but still managed to get out of bed at a reasonable hour (9 AM is a reasonable hour, right?). I finished the homework assignment that was due today in plenty of time. (Seriously, having a homework assignment due on the Fourth of July is a million times weirder to me than having to work because it’s day 3 of close.) Instead of driving all the way up to my parents’ house for a burger, I stopped at Five Guys after I went to Target and gorged myself (in true American fashion) on a burger and fries. And it was delicious. Oh, and it turns out that Edy’s Slow Churned Coconut Pineapple Ice Cream is as delicious as it sounds. (Unless you’re one of those freaks who doesn’t like coconut or pineapple, in which case I don’t want to know you.)

Plus and also, the Phillies freaking won! Hooray! I’m not bummed that I missed the first several innings due to the aforementioned trip to Target and Five Guys, but the last three innings were great! Piling it on against the Mets will never not be fun 🙂

I even remembered that Science Channel was running a Firefly marathon a couple of hours ago. But instead of watching “Heart of Gold” (which was the episode that had just started when I remembered), I decided to watch “Serenity” on DVD. I hadn’t pulled out my Firefly DVDs in ages and it was good to watch an episode. As funny as it is to say, I had forgotten how good that show is. (Was? I know it’s been off the air for almost a decade, but the show is still good.)

I’m gonna cap this good day by listening to Deja Entendu. Because I can. USA! USA!

Until tomorrow.

Joss Whedon: Still My Master

* Just to be on the safe side, if you’re like me and you want to be completely unspoiled for The Avengers, don’t read this post. Not that I’m actually spoiling anything. There’s just a few casting notes that are potential spoilers. I don’t even know what actually counts as a spoiler because I actively avoided everything written about the movie since before they started shooting. *

I finally saw The Avengers today. It was amazing. I completely agree with the person on Twitter who said that if you didn’t like The Avengers, then you just don’t like things (I can’t remember who it was, and let’s be honest, there were probably many people who said that on Twitter). Joss Whedon was absolutely the perfect person to write and direct this movie. (Not that I ever doubted that he was.) There were so many little moments in the movie that just felt so “Joss” (for lack of a better word) and they made me so happy. Plus, I totally recognized Enver Gjokaj when he showed up (and I hadn’t seen/heard/read that he was in the movie) and that made me happy. And then the credits said that Alexis Denisof was in the movie. What?!? That made me happy too.  Hell, it made me want to watch it again immediately. (To be fair, lots of things made me want to watch it again immediately. But I’ll probably wait for Blu-Ray – it’ll be on my Christmas list for sure.)

And then I saw that Logo is running a Buffy marathon tomorrow of Joss’ 10 favorite episodes. This news is fantastic and terrible. Fantastic because marathon of Joss’ favorite Buffy episodes! Hooray! Terrible because this means tomorrow will probably be as unproductive as today! Boo!

Part of me feels awful for calling today unproductive. Today consisted of so much awesome (Avengers! free lunch thanks to my parents! Phillies win!) that there couldn’t possibly be anything negative to say about it, right? Wrong. My focus is supposed to be on school right now, right? So if I don’t focus on school at all, then the day was kind of wasted. And sure, I could give myself a day off today, but then I really need to buckle down tomorrow. And I’m not so sure that’s going to happen. Man, this week really is proof that I am a terrible student and that I would never be able to go to grad school while working full-time. (Which makes me a really pathetic slacker when compared to so many of my classmates.)

Okay, this started out in a positive place and then got kind of negative. Time to stop.

Until tomorrow.
